Main Idea and Theme Through Details

• Students will read a variety of literature which includes, stories, plays, poetry, to analyze how a character in a story develops as a result of the events and challenges.

• Students will also read a variety of informational text that includes history, social studies, science, and technical subjects to identify the main idea of the text.

• Students continue to ask and answer questions using key details from the text.

• Students will write a well-structured multi paragraph narrative that will either to inform, instruct, persuade or entertain their audience. The narrative will include a beginning, middle, and end, and include details that describe actions, thoughts and feelings.

• Students will publish their writing using a variety of digital tools, with support from adults, or peers.

• Students will continue to build their vocabulary knowledge by studying the real-life connections between words and their uses so that they understand how words function in different contexts.

• Students will flexibly use context clues at the sentence level, to determine the meaning of an unknown or multiple meaning words with appropriate second grade text for point in time,when reading grade level text.
