Informative text: reading and research
Students will read informational books and gain information on social studies, science, and technical topics including informational maps, graphs, charts, and digital resources.
Students will determine the main idea of the text and identify supporting details. They will be able to describe the relationship between a series of historical events, scientific ideas or concepts, or steps in technical procedures in a text, using language to indicate sequence, sequence, and cause / effect.
Students will use sentence-level context as a clue to determine and clarify the meaning of unknown words and phrases.
Students will also read two texts on the same topic and compare and contrast the most important points and details.
