Point of View

• Students will read a variety of literature such as stories, plays, poetry, and informational text to understand how the author’s point of view impacts the information that will be conveyed to the reader.

• Students will ask and answer questions to describe how characters’ respond to major events and challenges within the text and explore dialogue of different characters and how that impacts point of view.

• Students will continue to practice making connections between the information presented in the text, when reading.

• Students will identify the main idea of an informational text and describe how an author supports points with reasons and details.

• Students will write opinion pieces in which they introduce a topic, state an opinion, supply reasons to support their opinion and provide a concluding statement.

• Students’ writing will be clearly organized and include the use the past tense of common irregular verbs and use adjectives and adverbs to strengthen their writing.

• Students will produce short writing pieces such as, letters that include the use of commas in greetings and closings.

• Students will also build vocabulary by learning how to apply the meaning of individual words to compound words.

• Students will identify the perspective or position conveyed or represented by an author, narrator, speaker, or character, in literary and informational texts.

• Students should have daily opportunities to discuss how authors support their points to learn this skill and apply it to writing their own opinion pieces of different lengths and topics.

• Students will classify words according to their tonic accent into categories of acute, grave, and esdrújula to apply the spelling rules of the use of the written accent.

• Students will recognize and use the written accent to indicate that there is a hiatus and not a diphthong, in familiar words (María, baúl, corn)

• Students will obtain information to identify where water is found on Earth and that it can be solid or liquid.
