After graduating from college in 1985, I worked as a math teacher for 25 years. My experiences have come in both private and public schools, at both the middle school and high school levels. My knowledge of curriculum and standards was developed in the state of Oregon. Through these experiences, I have developed a teaching style with high standards and expectations, yet have built in support for students to give them a great opportunity to be successful. To many of them, math is trivial, so I like to approach math education as a vehicle to learn life skills, such as accuracy, being prompt and timely, following a logical thought process, staying organized, and learning from mistakes. I also believe it is a great way to prove your intelligence. From 2011-2015, I held a position at Syracuse University that had me working in the Syracuse City School District, In this position, I worked with high school teachers, administrators, tutors, and students, educating them about scholarship opportunities, and providing and coordinating after school tutoring. In addition, I taught undergraduate math classes at Syracuse University. During the 2015-2016 academic year, I have served as an AYAL at Santa Clara University and have taught Elementary Math Methods 1 and 2, as well as Ethical Teacher Practices 1 and 2. In addition, I have served as Special Assistant to the Dean and taken on duties including work with the Intern Proposal, Academic Advisor for Interns at Sacred Heart/ Nativity School, and the addition of a Sports Leadership Program in Educational Leadership.
