Illiad

OVERVIEW

There are a several Alma integrations that relate to Illiad:

  • Illiad Patron Sync: There is a patron sync process that currently occurs between Voyager and some institutions' Illiad server to sync up patron information between the two systems.

  • Illiad add-on for Primo: Atlas has also created a Primo add-on that runs on the Illiad client side of things. This addon searches ExLibris Alma/Primo Catalog for ISSN or Title for loans and articles and allows for input of Call Number and Location for Loans into the Details tab of the request. More info on that is here.

  • The NCIP Illiad add-on: An NCIP Client created specifically for Alma that allows for ILLiad to communicate with Alma via the NCIP protocol. This add-on was created by the Atlas Systems, the developer of Illiad. More information is available here. Currently this plug-in is in use by Kennessaw State University and is described in greater detail below:

The NCIP Illiad add-on

The NCIP Illiad add-on (also referred to as the Illiad NCIP plug-in) allows for ILLiad to communicate with Alma via NCIP protocol. This plug-in works in one direction, from Illiad to Alma.

The add-on integrates ILLiad and Alma in the following workflow actions:

Borrowing from other institutions:

When an item is checked out from ILLiad, the add-on creates an NCIP request to Alma with the borrower’s ID and a brief bib record. Alma creates the brief bib and item records and checks out this item to the borrower. This shows up as a request on the borrower’s account in Alma (also viewable as a request via the My Account area in GIL-Find/Primo).

When the item is returned, it need only be returned in ILLiad. At the point of return, ILLiad will send an NCIP message to Alma returning the item, removing it from the patron’s account, and removing the brief bib/item.

Lending to other institutions:

When an item is “Marked as Found” in ILLiad, the add-on checks the Reference Number field in ILLiad for the item barcode (this must be input by the lending librarian). When it matches, the add-on sends an NCIP message to Alma, and Alma moves the item from the item's home location to the Illiad Resource Sharing library (This Library is created during the Illiad plug-in setup process) and changes the status to "On ILL Process until [due date]".

When the item is returned and “Checked In” in ILLiad the add-on sends a message to Alma and the item is marked as “In transit” to its home location. It will need to be scanned in Alma and reshelved.
