Internal Authentication

OVERVIEW

Most institutions utilize external authentication. Only the following institutions are currently utilizing internal authentication as the primary authentication method:

  • Atlanta Metropolitan State College

  • Internal accounts have a username and password that is managed by Alma. A patron's username is their Primary Identifier. For all students and most faculty and staff, this is the institution_id from Voyager (sometimes called Banner ID, often a 9 digit number starting with 9).

  • Accounts that were set to internal during the test phase will remain set to internal, and passwords will remain the same as they were prior to cut-over.

  • Accounts that were set to internal but never used, their passwords will be set to the default.

  • Accounts that were set to external were switched to internal and their passwords were set to the default.

  • The default password is Firstname_Lastname based on the patron record in Alma. For example "Joe Patron" would have a password of "Joe_Patron" on first login. Note that the password is case sensitive.

  • Note that if a user's password is set to the default value, when they first log into Alma, they will be prompted to change it.

Quirks and Considerations

If you are one of the institutions using internal authentication as your primary authentication method, the most important thing to note is that the Patron Load process as described on the training wiki will not work for your institution. You will need to manually add and expire patrons.
