NSWCCC Blue Award for Excellence in Swimming
Olivia Wunsch has had an exceptional year in 2024, solidifying her status as one of Australia's premier swimming talents. At the New South Wales Combined Catholic Colleges (NSWCCC) Championships, Olivia demonstrated her versatility and dominance by securing gold medals in the 50m Freestyle, 100m Freestyle, and 50m Butterfly events. Her outstanding performances earned her the title of NSWCCC Age Champion, marking her as a standout athlete within the state.
At the Australian All Schools Swimming Championships, Olivia continued her remarkable form, clinching gold in both the 50m and 100m Freestyle events. These victories underscored her consistency at the national level and demonstrated her ability to thrive under heightened competition.
Olivia’s remarkable achievements culminated at the 2024 Paris Olympics, where she was a vital member of the Australian Women's 4x100m Freestyle Relay team. Competing alongside esteemed teammates, Olivia swam the lead-off leg in the heats, playing a crucial role in the team's advancement to the final. In the final, the Australian quartet delivered a stellar performance, securing the gold medal and setting a new Olympic record with a time of 3:28.92.
Throughout the year, Olivia consistently achieved personal bests, reflecting her dedication to continuous improvement. Notably, at the Australian Olympic Trials, she recorded a personal best of 53.17 seconds in the 100m Freestyle, securing her spot on the Olympic team.
Beyond her individual accomplishments, Olivia has played an instrumental role in setting new benchmarks in relay events. At the 2023 World Aquatics Junior Swimming Championships, she was part of the mixed 4x100m Freestyle Relay team that set a new world junior record with a time of 3:24.29.
