NSWCCC Blue Award for Excellence in Athletics
Zavier Peacock has achieved extraordinary success in athletics during 2024, despite being new to the sport. Having only begun formal training in August 2023, Zavier’s rapid rise as an elite athlete is a testament to his natural talent and dedication. In the past year, Zavier has excelled across multiple levels of competition, including Conference, Sydney Catholic Schools, New South Wales Combined Catholic Colleges, and New South Wales All Schools Championships. He consistently claimed top honours, winning gold in both the 100m and 200m events at the New South Wales All Schools Championships, setting records with personal bests of 10.82 seconds in the 100m and 21.84 seconds in the 200m. At the Australian All Schools Championships, Zavier placed 1st in the Men’s Under 17 100m final with a time of 10.56 seconds and came 2nd in the 4x100m relay final, representing New South Wales.
At the Australian Athletics Championships in Adelaide, Zavier represented New South Wales with distinction, winning gold in the U17 100m (10.90 seconds) and the 4x100m relay (41.17 seconds). His outstanding performances earned him selection to represent Australia at the Oceania Championships in Fiji, where he contributed to a gold medal-winning performance in the 4x100m relay. Although an injury prevented him from competing in the 100m event, Zavier’s success on the international stage highlights his potential as an emerging star in athletics.
In addition to his accomplishments on the track, Zavier is also a talented rugby league player, recently signing a three-year contract with the Cronulla Sharks Junior Squad. Despite his rigorous training and competition schedule, Zavier finds time to mentor younger students at his school, coaching them in running techniques, starting block usage, and relay skills. His efforts exemplify leadership, teamwork, and a commitment to fostering a legacy of excellence.
Zavier’s achievements, dedication, and character make him an exceptional role model and a worthy recipient of the New South Wales Combined Catholic Colleges Blue Award for Athletics. His school community, De La Salle Revesby, is incredibly proud of his contributions and eagerly anticipates his continued success in athletics and rugby league.
