NSWCCC Blue Award for Excellence in Swimming
Kye McDermott has had an exceptional year in swimming, demonstrating dedication, resilience, and skill across multiple competitive events. His year began with a standout performance at the NSW Country Championships in February, where he set a new record in the 13 Years Boys 800m Freestyle with a time of 9:18.42, showcasing his potential to compete at the highest levels.
In March, Kye continued his success by claiming the 14 Years Boys Age Champion title at the Broken Bay Swimming Championships. He then added to his achievements in April, winning the Age Champion title at the New South Wales Combined Catholic Colleges Swimming Championships, where he triumphed in multiple events, including the 100m, 200m, and 400m Freestyle, as well as the 200m Individual Medley. His ability to excel across a variety of distances and strokes highlights his versatility and commitment to excellence.
Kye represented NSW All Schools at the School Sport Australia Championships in July, earning a silver medal in the 400m Freestyle against the nation’s top swimmers. Later that month, he competed at the NSW State Age Short Course Championships, where he placed second in the 14 Years Boys 800m Freestyle and third in the 400m Freestyle, solidifying his reputation as a formidable competitor in distance events.
Beyond his athletic achievements, Kye embodies the values of sportsmanship and leadership. As a representative of St Brigid’s Catholic College and the New South Wales Combined Catholic Colleges Swimming Team, Kye has been a consistent supporter of his teammates and the swimming community. His focus, diligence, and positive attitude have made him a role model both in and out of the pool.
Kye’s remarkable achievements, combined with his outstanding character and commitment to the sport, make him a deserving recipient of the New South Wales Combined Catholic Colleges Blue Award for Swimming in 2024.
