NSWCCC Outstanding Award for Excellence in Golf
Lara Thomsen has distinguished herself as an exceptional golfer, consistently showcasing determination, skill, and sportsmanship at the highest levels of competition. In 2024, Lara achieved remarkable success, being crowned the New South Wales Combined Catholic Colleges Champion and representing NSW in the School Sport Australia Golf Championships for the third time. Her impressive performance at the national championships saw her finish 8th in the Girls Division, playing a crucial role in the NSW Girls Team’s victory as Australian Teams Match Play Champions.
Lara’s efforts were integral to NSW’s success, securing both the Kath Atherton Salver for match play against Queensland and the Dean Shakes Championship for the lowest overall scratch scores. Notably, Lara remained undefeated in match play, further emphasizing her resilience and competitive edge.
At the NSW All Schools Golf Selections, Lara demonstrated remarkable composure and determination. After a challenging start with an opening round of 80 at Moore Park Golf Club, she bounced back in the final two rounds, delivering the lowest female scores of the tournament—69 and 67—at The Coast Golf Club. This incredible display of skill and perseverance earned her 3rd place overall in the Girls Division, solidifying her reputation as a golfer of extraordinary talent.
Lara’s consistency over the years has been equally impressive. She has been selected for the New South Wales Combined Catholic Colleges Golf Team four times and has participated in selection trials for the past five years. Her dedication to the sport, combined with her humility and respect for her teammates and competitors, has made her a role model both on and off the course.
Lara Thomsen’s unwavering commitment to excellence, her ability to overcome challenges with resilience and grace, and her significant contributions to the sport make her a truly deserving recipient of the 2024 New South Wales Combined Catholic Colleges Outstanding Award for Golf. Her impact on both her teams and the sport as a whole has left an indelible mark on the New South Wales Combined Catholic Colleges and beyond.
