Sgraffito Clay Tile

This is my Sgraffito Clay Tile, this is set in a random background and the main part of the tile is the ostrich. I made this project using a clay tile with a coat of black paint and used a couple different types of scratchboard knives, one being a single blade one and the other having multiple wire ends to create thin clusters of lines. After I completed scratching out the bird I put on a coat of clear glaze and it was fired. I chose to make this piece because I thought a bird would be a simple but still interesting piece that showed good contrast. My project evolved after I finished the bird because I had to add the background and because I wasn't able to add feathers onto the bird like I had planned.
