Observational Drawing #1
Graphite, Charcoal, Sharpie
9 x 11 in
This is my observational drawing which I made while looking at the laptop I was drawing and drawing the details of what I observed. I drew this piece as a zoom and cropped image because I wanted to get up close to it and show the detail I saw. I made this work to also figure out the proportions that the laptop looked like it had because of the angle I drew it from.
This work was made primarily from charcoal but there is some white gel pen, sharpie, and graphite in there as well. I used the charcoal first and blended it out to create a solid layer of color with a tortillon. The rest of the materials I used were more to layer or just highlight parts of the drawing.
This drawing did take a lot of time so there was some revision involved because I stopped drawing and came back to it so many times that when I was drawing the laptop and had to set it up to start again it was in different places with different lighting, background, etc. This just means that I got an even better grasp of each detail of the laptop though and I did most the shading and showing the way the lighting was last so it wasn't a big deal that it was changing. This project inspired me to create more observational drawings because I liked making this one and I think it turned out well.
