Extended Blind Contour

Extended Blind Contour

Watercolor and Sharpie (Fine and Regular)

This is my extended blind contour project, it began as many blind contour drawing on a plain white piece of paper but I extended them and worked with lots of pattern and color in order to make this piece. I made this work to experiment and see how layering these different textures would turn out and to see how I could turn all of the small and very unique blind contour drawings into one cohesive piece.

I made this work using first off, a fine point sharpie to draw the blind contours and then I went over it with water color paints to create the patterns and lastly I drew the patterns and various lines with a regular sized sharpie. I also added some large and small rings in some of the circles with the different widths of sharpie.

When I began this project I was pretty unsure of what direction to take the "extending" part of it and I wasn't sure if I was going to be able to make any definite shapes to make sense with the blind contours so I decided to take the abstract approach and make the shapes go over and interact with the lines already on the paper. I researched a little bit before I began to paint and looked into some abstract pieces to get inspiration which is how I got the idea to create this type of circle and rectangle pattern.
