Harp
Graphite, white pen and Sharpie
8 x 8 in
This is my project for the WhatchamaDRAWit prompt. For this project we were given a prompt and asked to put it down on paper, my prompt was "Draw a musical instrument that looks like a harp but is played with the feet". I immediately thought of drawing someone in the middle of playing it and putting them in a tall chair reading sheet music. I chose to do it like this because I didn't think you would be able to tell it wasn't just a small harp or a regular harp from far away unless I did.
For this project I used woodless graphite pencils and shaded them out with my fingers. I also used fine point and regular sharpies for the black of the harp and the chair. I used a white ink pen to write "MUSIC" on the book the harp player is holding and for a line in between the harp and the table it is sitting on. I used a ruler a lot throughout making this project for precise lines that were as straight as possible.
I wanted to incorporate shading of the graphite into this work as well as bold, confident lines. My project evolved because I thought the work would actually be stronger without a head on the body because I didn't think I would be able to make one with the same bold style and with realistic hair. My next step on this project would be adding a background for the harp player, I would want to add one where I could incorporate some color to make it pop.
