Existential #6

Look a Little Closer

Marker, Colored Pencil, Fine point Sharpie

11 x 7.5

I created this piece to show how enthralling nature can be and how much it can reveal and answer for people if they take a second to appreciate it. The piece represents duller colors behind the fence and brighter more popping colors in the fully nature areas. I based this piece on an experience I had with my friends where we parked and climbed on top of a baseball dugout. Below is what I based the drawing on and my original sketch/experimentation. The cars are our actual cars and the dugout is based on the same on we actually went on.

I created this using primarily markers as well as colored pencil, on the duller part of the sky behind the fence, and in the dugout. I also used fine point Sharpie on the black lines and a fine point silver pen to outline the figures.

As I created this piece, a lot changed as I went. I began with the sketch and wasn't quite sure how I was going to do the sky and ground but I knew I wanted to add a fantasy element which would catch the eye. I experimented a lot on the figures on the dugout, which was surprisingly the hardest part of the project for me. I had a lot of trouble getting the far right figure the way I wanted and had to use whiteout to fix it many times which messed up some of the colors around it a bit but I was able to fix it mostly.
