Sustained investigation #1:

This is my Sustained investigation #1, for the sustained investigations I decided I wanted to incorporate equine life and balance so I decided to ask, "How can I capture equine movement while focusing on balance in my paintings?" Because I wanted to create balance I thought I would have the horses rearing and one of my favorite things to paint are landscapes and clouds so I made the horses in the sky so they blended into it.

To make this project I first sketched out the horse on the right side and then used tracing paper to draw over it and put it on the other side and push super hard when doing it to transfer the image over. I did this tracing technique because I wanted the horses to look exactly the same to show balance in the piece. After sketching my horses I then painted on my clouds but I realized I wanted a sunset so I put orange and yellow in the sky around the horses and put more color over the clouds to keep them clean and blended the sky colors into the horses.

I am pretty happy with the way this project turned out but if I could go back I would have cut the orange that I used for the sky with more white because the red I mixed it with made it super sheer so I had to do a few coats and it made it look a little more impressionistic than I intended.
