Donate Life
Acrylic paint, Sharpie
5.5 x 9 In
This is my donate life project, created for the donate life design competition. I made this piece inspired by The Creation of Adam because I thought it shared a similar theme of creating life which is why I made my phase "be a creator of life". I also decided to do a sunset because I thought it showed the peaceful end of the day or of the life that is ending to save another person's life who needs organ or tissue donation.
I made this work by first sketching out where I wanted everything placed, I then went in with acrylic paint and did the sunset. After that dried I went in with more paint to do the sun. After I finished painting I did another sketch on top of the paint of the hands and lettering. I went over the sketch of the hands with a sharpie pen and used rub-off letters for the text on the piece. It was my first time using the letters so they are a bit crooked and I had to go over some parts with sharpie.
I focused a lot about balance in this piece, I tried my best to center everything and keep it lined up so the piece seemed balanced and organized when finished. This project turned out pretty much exactly as I had originally planned but the sun was a bit of an impulsive decision but I like that I added it. I think my next steps on this project could be to clean up some of the lines and the sun could use another layer of paint.
