Self portrait

Acorn

6.5 x 4.5 in

This is my digital self portrait which was created on Acorn. In this piece, I wanted to experiment a lot with "shading" which is basically color blocking with the technique I used. I created this picture by coloring on top of a photo I had taken of myself in class. I chose this picture to layer my work on top of because it was pretty simple so I could get a hang of how to use the program and because I liked how it was close up and cut off the page. I also like that I'm wearing a mask in it so when I look back at work like this I will remember these times.

This work was made, as I said, all digitally. I used the paintbrush tool on the program and just changed the size depending on how precise I wanted the lines and used the paint bucket to fill large areas of color. I also used the pencil tool for the lines on the ceiling and a line tool for the lines on the vent above me.

One thing I am not the biggest fan of in this work is the way the eyelashes turned out, they look like that in the picture but something about them looks really off in the drawing. I think if I had gone for a softer shade, maybe more gray, it wouldn't be so harsh and noticeable. I started this project once before but I had tons of troubling figuring it out so I deleted it and later restarted on this one. I really did not think I would enjoy this form of creating art work but I actually do.
