Oil Paint Sticks

14 x 24 in

This is my oil paint stick project which I made to capture the sign to the track and field as FHS. I made this landscape piece while looking at the sign and sitting on the ground, making it an observational drawing.

This was my first time using oil paint sticks, which the entire piece is made of. I had some trouble getting the colors to blend evenly but I'm happy with the way they ended up blending and I like the look it gave of the smudge-y colors.

When I was making the piece it started to rain so I took a picture of what I was observing and finished it using that as a reference. The piece was very experimental because this was my first time using the material but as I went I figured the paint sticks out more and got the hang of getting them to look smooth. I think if I added more shading and was able to get the lines more precise the piece would be a bit stronger. I also practiced using the paints and figuring out the shades each color were before I put them on the paper.
