Sustained Investigation #8

This is my sustained investigation #8, created on Acorn inspired by a picture I took of my dog and I. I wanted to draw this picture because I love drawing my dog and I thought it would be cool-looking digitally. I really like this picture because it's super cute that she's looking right at the camera and I think this is one of my favorite projects I've made this year. I also feel like I'm getting a lot better using Acorn and it is getting easier.

As I mentioned, I made this work digitally on Acorn so I used no physical art supplies but on Acorn I used the paintbrush and paint bucket tools as well as the color match tool where you can pick a color from the actual picture and draw with that exact same color. I liked all the shading I was able to achieve on this piece and I don't think the colors are too drastically different like in my sustained investigation #7 so I'm happy to see improvement in my work.

As I always do with my digital pieces, I started with the smaller details and then went in and filled in the larger portions that needed to do filled with color. I chop the sections up like in my face to make the shading and emphasize the contrast and color shown throughout the picture. The only real evolution that came about on this piece was the background, I had trouble deciding what to do with the background because in the original picture it is just plain white and I knew I didn't want to do that. In the end, I'm happy with the color I chose for the background and I think it has a nice way of contrasting the other neutral shades in the drawing.
