Existential #12

This is my sustained investigation #12 which explores the existentialism of isolation. I was inspired to explore the realm of isolation because it is a topic that has greatly affected my high school career and life. During COVID we all experienced a lot of isolation and this feeling was very new to a lot of people, like myself. When people are isolated they can experience difficulties thinking or remembering information, obsessive thinking, and hallucinations as well as longer-term mental illness risks. So when doing this project I researched more on this topic and tried to capture aspects of existential crisis and isolation in my artwork.

This piece was made with marker, paint pens, and collage. It is on regular paper and the collage parts are taped onto the background.

I began by sketching skeletons and exploring repetition with color and shapes. This repetition is suggestive of obsessive thinking and recalling things from the past and the chaos with color and line throughout the piece is supposed to express out of body thinking/existentialism. A lot of practice went into this piece because I did a lot of trials of skeletons and tried many possible ways to layer the colors and orientations of the skeletons.
