Ink and Charcoal Drawing

This is my first charcoal drawing. The assignment was to re-create an original photograph we took using only charcoal and ink, aiming to be about 50/50 or the two materials. The setting of my drawing takes place on my bed in my room. The entire cat is drawn with charcoal along with the windows and chair in the background but the eyes and blanket underneath the cat are ink. I used a tortillon a lot in this project and did a lot of erasing. I choose this piece to draw because I knew it would pose a good challenge and I liked the way it looked in black and white. On this project I used the grid method which definitely helped break the project apart and make it simpler but I can tell that I used that method when I look at the piece because you can kind of see the lines between them and when I tried to blend them together better it didn't really work well so I should've kept that in mind more while doing the project. Overall, I like how the piece captures the odd things my cat does but I wish I worked on the eyes more and made them look more realistic even though they actually looked like that in the picture.
