For this project one of my goals was to improve my use of perspective and enhance the topic of the piece by using color. So, because I wanted to enhance the idea that my piece is about existentialism, I used the colors I find representative of joy and sadness. Because the dog is waiting for his family to come home on the stairs and he is sad here, I made the stairs blue to show his emotion. I used yellow to show his reserved hope that his beloved family will come back. I based this work on a photo I have of my old dog where he looks sad and he's sitting at the top of the stairs, so that was my inspiration.

I made this work using Blick markers which I used to layer and create shadows and depth in the piece. I also used a thin marker to draw over all the lines to make the work crisp and realistic.

My research for this piece began with the photo I had of my dog. I experimented with color and layout of the piece and revised a lot by redrawing the stairs and dog to get them the way I wanted many times. I also revised by changing the position of the dog on the stairs so he looks more eager and so you can see him better on the stairs.
