Charcoal Self Portait

This is my self portrait, it is set in Ms. Girardin's science room where Maisy and I are drinking coffee before class stared. I created this piece using mostly charcoal and some light H pencil. I chose this photograph to draw because I liked the blank background and it was like the only picture I had of myself that I thought would be possible to draw. Luckily, I used the grid method on this project which made it much simpler and I learned from my last project using a grid that you have to blend the squares together super well so you can't see the grid in the final product. My project evolved a lot from the beginning because I got pretty close to finishing and was not happy with the product but Ms. Medsker suggested adding a lot of shading and once I did I was a lot happier with how the faces came out. If I could go back and fix my mistakes I would have payed more attention to the squares because on my forehead in the picture you can see a spot where I accidentally drew with black charcoal past the line where I was supposed to. I would also work more on the coffee cup which looks really unrealistic and I think could use a lot more work but I don't really know how to draw things like that. Overall, I am happy with the final product because this was a very hard project and I worked on it a lot.
