Scratchboard

In this project, we were asked to create a picture using the scratch board. We created an opposite of two different symbols, like rain and a flower. So, that's exactly what I created. In this project, I used a scratch board, and some scratch tools. I then printed it using paint and a roller.

In this project, I used many different principles and designs. Some of which being color, shape, emphasis, balance, and pattern. I used color in the printing, using black, which then places emphasis on the subject of the piece. I used shape for both sides, and pattern makes it flow nicely throughout. I used pattern on the raindrops, and made it look balanced, not having to many raindrops, but still filling up the side. The pattern was also used in the flower, and I used the same shape continually. My project changed throughout the project. It originally started as a flower and I was going to do a sun. But, I realized that they didn't really opposite each other, and they would look quite the same. So, I decided to change my idea to rain.

There isn't any meaning behind this piece, and it doesn't really relate to my life at all. It did help me with carving. I am proudest of my flower in this project, because the shape stayed consistent and it is easily recognizable. Something I really struggled with in this project is the raindrops. I believe it is due to my lack of carving skills, and I was unable to create a good shape for the raindrop. If I was to do it differently, I would have attempting to recreate the raindrop shape.
