Elements and Principles of Design Diptych

In this piece, I decided to create an antagonist VS protagonist which represents more of a comic book look. What I wanted to do was create a side dedicated to each side, much like some comic book covers, and have the background connect. This idea doesn't necessarily connect with my life, other than I created the idea of the two fighting. I am a big fan of intense comics, graphic novels and such. So, I decided to put the things I enjoy into this project. In this project, I used a large piece of paper, specifically used for a variety of different art techniques. I sketched out the main ideas in pencil, and then I inked the main characters to make the stand out significantly more. In this project, I used many different principles of design and elements of art. Specifically, for elements of art, I used texture, value, and shape. Texture I mainly used on the clothing and characters to make their clothing stand out more, and to make them look like they have more depth. With value, I used a ton of shading throughout the piece, specifically to give everything a more three dimensional look, and I used shape in the background, and I used shape on the people to form a more correct proportional human look. for principles of design, I used emphasis, movement, and balance. I used emphasis by inking only the main characters. This makes them stand out, and I also made them very large so they would be the central idea of the piece. I used movement to make the characters more life like, and more like they are actually fighting or preparing to fight. I also used balance to really show the two different sides of the page, and make it significantly different between the hero and villain. At first, I was really unsure of what I wanted to do in this piece. Originally, I was thinking about doing a sadder/more emotional piece, but I decided against that, since my last project was more symbolic. So, I decided to draw an intense fight instead. This is a drastic change between the two ideas, but i'm glad it was the one I chose. If I was to continue this piece, I would add more to the background, and redo the helmet on the hero character, since I think it's a bit messy and unoriginal.
