Sustained Investigation #14

For this project, and just like all my other sustained investigation projects, I have an inquiry question that I am applying to each and every piece. I decided to completely change my inquiry question though. So, my new inquiry question is how can I draw birds in a cartoony style? I love birds, so it allows me to focus on my own art style, while also drawing something I've never drawn before. For this piece, I worked digitally, and attempted to do a much more dynamic, trickier bird. I wanted to show a bird in flight, and even with my own little models, it was incredibly difficult. I am new to drawing birds, so the anatomy shift from humans to birds was very difficult. Because of this, it took my a lot of practice in order to be able to get the form correct, which is a major reason why I wanted to do a cartoony, fun style. When it comes to drawing animals of any kind, the form is the most important part. So, I started off with an idea in my head, and then sketched it out first, just getting the base shape down. Then, once I had the shape down, I could easily fill in the details. The easiest part are the details, and the form isn't too difficult, especially since I have two little models who helped me a ton when drawing birds. I am honestly very proud of how this came out, as I have never drawn birds flying before. If I were to change anything, I would start working on a background, but due to my time crunch and my unfamiliarity of drawing birds, I wanted to keep it really simple to start off with.
