Modified Contour Drawing

In this project we were asked to draw our hand holding an object. I drew my hand holding a sharpie. All I needed was a piece of paper, a pencil and the sharpie I was holding. The specific elements and principles I used during this project was value, shape, and line. The value, being the darker lines that I drew to make the certain lines take priority. Shape makes up almost the whole hand, for it is primarily made up of different shapes. And line, which allows value to show up, but also accounts for the other lines as well. The project also has some principles of design, such as emphasis. Emphasis on the darker lines which cause them to stand out more. There is no specific meaning behind the object that I chose, and it doesn't really relate to my life. I am very proud of how my fingers in the background came out, I think they look pretty proportional to the rest of the drawing. I started with the beginning general shape of the hand, but with enough trying I eventually got a good shape. If I could change something in this drawing, I would change the shape of the thumb, for it feels out of place, and the shape feels messed up.
