Sustained Investigation # 2

For this project, and for all upcoming sustained investigation projects, I have an inquiry question that I am applying to each and every piece. My inquiry question is, how can I show movement through character design? So, for this first project, I drew a character on my drawing tablet, unlike what I did for the first one, which is usually just paper pencil. I usually draw characters outside of the class, so it's nice to draw and try to get better at the art I really like. When drawing anatomy, even stylized anatomy like mine, you need to know the general gist of people and anatomy. So, I used a lot of shape when making this drawing. For this one, unlike my last piece, I tried to do a very dynamic pose, so I had to use shape in order to get the baseline of a character in a pose like this. Shape allowed me to see the general baseline of the drawing, and add some detail from there. I also did a bit of shading, and worked on how size changes due to perspective, which I think came out pretty well. And of course, since it is in my inquiry question, I used movement. I used movement in how he's in the air, and how he's charging up a punch. This piece evolved a lot, since I kept doing sketches, but couldn't find what I wanted to do. I like how it came out, and really makes up for the lack of movement in the first piece. For the next piece, I am going to keep up with the dynamic poses and crazy movement. If I was to continue this piece, I would add a lot more detail, I would make a background, and not rush a lot of it.
