Sustained Investigation #9

For this project, and just like all my other sustained investigation projects, I have an inquiry question that I am applying to each and every piece. I decided to completely change my inquiry question though. So, my new inquiry question is how can I draw birds in a cartoony style? I love birds, so it allows me to focus on my own art style, while also drawing something I've never drawn before. For this piece, I worked digitally, and just did a simple drawing of a bird stuck in a toilet paper roll. This may seem really random, but I am drawing situations that my own birds get into regularly. I am new to drawing birds, so the anatomy shift from humans to birds was very difficult. Because of this, it took my a lot of practice in order to be able to get the form correct, which is a major reason why I wanted to do a cartoony, fun style. This drawing was super simple, because while the form is important, much of the bird is concealed in this drawing, making it really easy. When it comes to drawing animals of any kind, the form is the most important part. Even though the bird is mostly out of view, it was still important to get proportions correct. Then, once I had the shape down, I could easily fill in the details. The easiest part are the details, and the form isn't too difficult, especially since I have two little models who helped me a ton when drawing birds. If I were to change anything, I would start working on a background, but due to my time crunch and my unfamiliarity of drawing birds, I wanted to keep it really simple to start off with, but I feel as though this is started to throw in a new dynamic, so overall I really enjoy the piece.
