Sustained Investigation #3

For this project, and for all upcoming sustained investigation projects, I have an inquiry question that I am applying to each and every piece. My inquiry question is, how can I show movement through character design? So, for this first project, I drew a character on my drawing tablet, like I did for the second one, which is different than most of my sketches, as I usually use just paper and pencil. I usually draw characters outside of the class, so it's nice to draw and try to get better at the art I really like. When drawing anatomy, even stylized anatomy like mine, you need to know the general gist of people and anatomy. So, I used a lot of shape when making this drawing. For this one, just like my last piece, I tried to do a very dynamic pose, so I had to use shape in order to get the baseline of a character in a pose like this. Shape allowed me to see the general baseline of the drawing, and add some detail from there. I also did a bit of shading, and worked on different poses as well as how it would affect clothing. I think it came out pretty well, but my last one was a lot stronger, and much more dynamic. And of course, since it is in my inquiry question, I used movement. I used movement within this entire piece, with the wind showing movement, but also his pose to show he is doing a dynamic action. This piece evolved a lot, mainly when doing the clothing, as I wanted to do a lot of creases and such, but also not go overboard on the detailed or lines. I like how it came out, but it's definitely not as strong as my last piece. . For the next piece, I am going to keep up with the dynamic poses and crazy movement. If I was to continue this piece, I would add a lot more detail to just about everything, and actually add a background to show even more movement.
