Beautiful Oops

In this project, we were asked to create a piece around a large ink splotch that was already on the page. There were no restrictions, other than to incorporate this ink splotch into the piece. So, I looked at what I had been given, and what I saw was a solar system of sorts. So, I wanted to create a big creature eating this solar system because I thought it would be fun. This project was very fun, I created a very cartoony, fun little art piece, and actually strived to use color in the piece. I did this project with graphite and the paper given. Throughout this piece, I used elements and principles of art such as space, form, emphasis, and movement. I used space when doing the background, so I could have a proper space background, but also not take too much room, as it would make the piece look cluttered. When drawing creatures, just like humans, I start with the form, and draw out how I want this strange creature to look. I ended on this design, and I honestly kind of put my pen to the paper and saw where it took me. I really focused on not thinking too hard, and just going for it, which was quite relaxing and fun. Emphasis of course was on the ink splotch, and movement was to make the creature really look like he was grabbing the planets, and getting ready to eat the solar system. Originally, I saw something completely different with the ink splotch, and I was planning on something totally different. But then I had the idea of just going with it. I spent most of my time trying to decipher what the ink splotch could be, which is what led me to kind of just going with it. If I were to continue working on this piece, I would quite a bit. First, I would add texture to the creature, as he looks incredibly flat and not super interesting. I would also color the rest of the piece, as I think that would make it stand out a lot more. Overall, this piece was really fun and I really enjoy the outcome.
