Beautiful Oops

In this piece, I did a butterfly/moth and a caterpillar sitting on a record. My idea for this was to be a sort of advertisement for a music company. The idea "Brown Tail Co." comes from a movie production joke group a bunch of my friends created a year ago. So, I decided to do a record style poster for my beautiful oops. For this project, I did my first sketch in pencil, then following inked over the pencil, and then proceeded to add color via colored pencils. Specifically for this project, since it was very color based, I used elements and principles such as color, balance, and pattern. Color was used throughout, but balance allowed the colors I chose and where I chose to put them be significant. Balanced allowed for the piece to jump out, but not be super crazy and look too full. Also, pattern was a major role, since most major aspects of this piece, specifically the record, butterfly/moth, and the caterpillar are all very pattern based. Originally, I struggled with what I wanted the piece to be. I thought about an underwater piece originally, with the splotches being some sort of creature, but I later scrapped that idea because they didn't fit well with that sort of setting. This ended up bringing me to the piece I have today. Finally, if I were to continue off of this piece, I would mainly do shading and layering with the colors to allow for a bigger stand out. But, due to limitations on time, I ended up going without these aspects.
