Extended Blind Contour

For this project, we started off by drawing our hand twice without looking at the paper, but while fully looking at out hand instead. Then, we did the same thing but for a self portrait. This led to a pretty big blob of sharpie marks. At first, I thought it was incredibly difficult to find something to draw out of this mess, but I just started to sketch, and something just started to form. In this project, I drew a squid around the original sharpie mess, and drew it blue to contrast the red of the squid. For materials, I used a variety of different sized inking pens, and I used copic markers for the color. When making a piece, you use a variety of different elements and principles of art. For this piece, I used things such as contrast, balance, pattern, and color. I colored the whole piece the color I thought would look the best, and then made sure they contrasted each other, giving more life to the piece. If you look directly in the middle, I used a pretty simple pattern throughout that part, which makes it look pretty good in my opinion. I balanced the amount of color in the middle but not fully filling it, making it not take too much away from the piece. My piece evolved quite a bit, as originally I was just sketching and playing around, which landed me on the squid idea. If I were to continue to work on this piece, I would work on the main body of the squid, as I don't really like how it came out. Overall I had a lot of fun on this piece.
