Stars and Stripes Project

11x17

In this project, I had the idea of creating a more interpretational piece of art, using a mixture of calm water and stars. So, since I am a big fan of drawing humans, I drew a woman standing on top of the calm water, reaching towards the stars. I didn't have any real message in mind when creating this, but it came out very interpretational. So I didn't make any story behind it specifically. This project relates to my life in the sense that the flag relates to me since I live in the U.S. Also, I was able to incorporate my own art style a lot into this project, and show some of my strengths and weaknesses in my art. How I created this piece was I drew it up on my Ipad Pro, using the app ProCreate. This is where most of my artwork is done, and it allowed me to add a nice amount of color and shading. In this project, I used multiple different designs and principles. For elements, I used line, shape, color, and texture. I used line to do the red and blue lines that end up wrapping around the central person in my piece. I used shape for all of the stars, and for the water droplets, and color for the red, white, and blue aspect, as well as multiple other colors. And I used texture a lot in the shirt, which I think came out really well. For Principles of design, I used emphasis, pattern, and movement. Emphasis was used on the woman in the middle, where a selection of colors was used to make her stand out. Pattern was used when placing the stars in the sky, and deciding how the red and blue lines would wrap around her. And I used movement to show the wrapping of the different colored lines. Originally, I wasn't sure what I wanted to do, so I just started drawing. As I continued, I began putting pieces together and making it a more finished, understandable piece. If I was to continue working, I would probably add something to the background so it wouldn't be as blank.
