Sustained Investigation #1

For this project, and for all upcoming sustained investigation projects, I have an inquiry question that I am applying to each and every piece. My inquiry question is, how can I show movement through character design? So, for this first project, I just a pencil drawing of a character I created. I usually draw characters outside of the class, so it's nice to draw and try to get better at the art I really like. I just used a pencil on this drawing. When drawing anatomy, even stylized anatomy like mine, you need to know the general gist of people and anatomy. So, I used a lot of shape when making this drawing. It isn't very dynamic, but I tried a bunch of new things I have never tried before. Shape allowed me to see the general baseline of the drawing, and add some detail from there. I also did a bit of shading, and worked on how cloth folds. I am trying to get better at drawing clothing that doesn't look really flat. And of course, since it is in my inquiry question, I used movement. I used movement in the fishing pole style weapon this she is holding, since I wanted to do a beach sort of feel. This piece evolved a lot, since I kept doing sketches, but couldn't find what I wanted to do. This lead me to having not a lot of time to work on it, which is due to my poor time management. For the next piece, I am going to try to manage my time better. If I was to continue this piece, I would add a lot more detail, I would make a background, and not rush a lot of it.
