This one is transitioning from Spring to Summer. This is a summery of what is happening from top:
1. At the top are spinach and Swiss chard. Both have bolted and the season is over. Most plants except seed heads have been taken down. Zucchinis and egg plant are growing there now. Will take the chards down when Zucchini begins to flower.
2. Nasturtiums sown in early spring are flowering. There are four sweet potato vines and six chilly transplants there.
3. Calendulas came from fallen seeds. A patch of cluster beans is growing near them.
4. Carrots down in spring are ready to harvest in a few weeks. Soya beans will be sown there after harvest.
5. The rain water runs down that little slope. That has ginger and arbi. Arbi was sown in April and has taken off. Ginger sown two weeks ago now sprouting. At the end of that channel where rain water collect is a banana plant.
6. On the side are the last three cabbages. They were the neglected seedlings I discovered this Spring. Thanks to the cool weather they have set heads. Will be taken down and peppers will take that place.
7. At the end is the Comfrey, available to feed all plants as needed.
Marigolds, balsam, and cleomes have grown from fallen seeds. A few potato plants have sprouted from forgotten potatoes of the last season. Amaranthus and celosia have been sown at the borders to take over from nasturtiums.
This whole patch would be about 15 feet long and two feet wide. In that 30 square feet, we have over 30 different things happening.
Sow intensively. Intercrop as seasons change. Don’t wait to harvest the last leaf or fruit. You will be later for the next season.
