You can grow onion and garlic chives for flowers as long as you don’t let them go to seed. They are invasive. You can harvest the leaves but no yield of bulbs below.

You can grow both garlic and onions just for the greens and keep chopping them. No yield of bulbs below.

Onion and garlic grown for the bulb, must feature only leaves. Green, bright and thriving. Each leaf of the onion is one sheath below; each leaf of garlic is one pod below.

Patiently nurture leaves until they yellow and flop off - 6 to 9 months - to harvest lovely onions and garlic as bulbs.
