My two bits on dry leaves:
There is no scope to hoard in nature. You can’t collect, pile, bag, store natural, live materials. They will either spoil or they will decompose back into soil.
Since you don’t want the leaves rotting, you want to let them decompose while they lie there unused.
To facilitate decomposition you need air, moisture and food. Without these three elements good quality life can’t survive. Pathogens and disease causing organisms can live without air and water.
Therefore you want to keep the leaves in bins that allow air. You want to crush them so air spaces are good and they don’t rot. You want to keep them together so moisture is retained. If you feed them food - nitrogenous materials like manure, coffee grounds, grass clipping, kitchen waste - they will break down faster.
Else they will just lie there and decompose eventually.
Do not tie them up in plastic bags; do not fill them up in bins with no air; if you must keep them in a garbage bin, keep the lid open; do not leave them in the open, rain will fill air spaces with water and rot them.
It can be tiring trying to respond to every choice you make about which bin, which place, how long, what price, and so on. Pls keep in mind that you must provide air, moisture and food for decomposition to happen. Make your choices how would do it. Tell us your stories and what work or what did not so others can learn.
