Yes, coffee grounds are a rich source of nitrogen. However they are too finely ground and mold and fungus grow in them.
Applying stuff directly to plant beds can modify the soil in ways you don’t fully comprehend at the start. A better idea is to add everything you wish to the compost and add the better balanced compost to the soil.
If you must add them, mix into water or into soil and add.
