Get some craft sticks also known as icecream sticks make it into half and write with a permanent marker and keep it in the starting of the row of seeds you start. You can sow seeds in that too.
Why you need to, cut into half stick if seed tray has a dome and this stick will interfere when you close the lid in the early stages before you open the lid after germination
In order not to get lost labeling first make sure you have your seed pkts in hand ,cut sticks in half ,label all the sticks with what you want to sow, fill the tray with soil, stick the labels into the soil according to how many plants you need of each variety then start sowing. In this way you'll not lose labeling at all because if you've to sow you need to label first. Thats the rule I follow.
Before you even start seedling start your label process first. That will also let you plan how many you will need . Label should state the name, source , start date and any other specifics like determinate or indeterminate. This year it helped but still there are instances where the label gets mixed and lost .
For transplants, same rule. Count how many plants each variety fill the soil label plants then transplant. Try to transplant one variety at a time.If not you'll lose focus, get tired of transplanting and be like whatever I'm not going to label anymore.Been there done that already so lot of experience š¬
