Being the very first one in this group who is trying to grow purple Lotus from seed in this group I am in constant research and gathering info as to what makes container lotus unhappy.
Here are few things :
Don’t trim the standing lily pads until the surface of water since those are the jeans of their o2 supply . That will kill all the plant. Any pads floating on the surface should carefully removed from the bottom along with the stem as they are burden to the rest of the plant
Never use fertilizer until you have 5 erected lily pads . That will burn the foliage.
Shade is the culprit , as much as lotus loves 80s it also hates constant week of colder temps ( less than 70) which is not in control but that causes lily pads to shrink and die . But that’s fine cut them neat from bottom and give space for the new pads
