The transition from Spring to Summer means the garden is moving into its fast growth phase.
You don’t do any development tasks. You don’t even touch the soil. Simply let plants grow. Nurture and care for them. Enjoy the harvest. Mulch to protect.
Sow seeds by all means. Water as needed. Weed. Control pests. That’s it.
Seeds must be to season, always.
Q) What kind of mulch you use. Mulch will decompose later correct? So next year those will become part of our soil?
A) I collect and crush dry leaves and store them in wire bins. Then use them to mulch in summer. By fall they have decomposed fully.
Yes, I layer the soil with compost in Spring, mulch in summer, compost again in Fall and mulch in winter. I don’t leave the soil exposed ever.
These layers build the soil constantly and also protect. They also keep it moist. I don’t dig or turn my soil either.
