Fall Gardening

I have posted this video for beginners. Here are the notes:

1. Seed starting mix needs one primary thing : air. Roots will grow well in airy medium, water will drain out well, and no fungus will form.

2. You can sow in just store bought peat moss, if you wish. Seeds with good cotyledons will have their own nutrition and grow fast. However, if you expect plants to stay 4-6 weeks in the tray, add compost for nutrition.

3. Seed starting mixed do not need soil. Sometimes soil can have pathogens or other seeds. No harm adding a handful of you wish.

4. Sand helps immensely in seed starting. Holds the seeds down and helps roots firm up. Add if you have it handy. I don’t have any at this time.

5. Seeding mix must be somewhat light and fine. Sieve if needed. Remove sticks and stones.

6. Choose the tray based on how long the plant will take for transplanting.

7. Ensure the seedling tray has large holes below for drainage.

8. Do not press down the seedling mix. It will

Compact and fungus will come in. Especially in summer. They eat and rot the roots.

9. When you water you allow the mix to settle quite firmly. That is enough. Water immediately after sowing.

10. Do not allow the tray to dry out. Seeds will fail. Spray water everyday to keep moist.

Sow later in the evening when cool. I did one now to help others plan.
