Practical instruction and real teaching
The master explains how to tread a spiritual path with a specific practice, technique, art or discipline, but it's the practice itself that truly teaches the purpose of that spiritual path. The master cannot search for enlightenment instead of his or her student, it's only the student who can do it. One can understand the instructions and knowledge of a master only by practicing. The role of the master is in fact to assist the student after the initiation to a practice, and it usually doesn't take more than a few minutes to explain it.
The same goes for a Guru, person who directly transmits the sacred truth through experience and without explanation. If before or after such an initiation the student doesn't carry out a spiritual quest with a very specific philosophical system and practices in order to make sense of this sacred truth or enlightenment purely based on experience, he will understand nothing. And mentally speaking, he or she will be much more likely to sink into confusion, if not serious psychological problems, than to think and act coherently.
Spirituality is only about practice, research, experience and realization, a way of being but also of living it has nothing to do with any so-called spiritual awakening or spontaneous non-ordinary experience, which would have the virtue of instantly solving every personal problem and moreover being able to teach others how to do it.
There is no spirituality without practice because only the practice is really able of teaching a sacred truth, which is obviously spiritual and not intellectual, and which of course has to be experienced in daily living.

Eternal soul
To realize that the soul is eternal, it's enough to understand that what has no beginning cannot end, what is not born cannot die, what doesn't move and never evolve can only be immortal. Immutable and eternal are so to speak synonymous.
And to realize that such concepts somehow very metaphysical are also existential and experiential facts, it's only necessary to pay attention to our faculty of being conscious as such, and simply observe that it never changes. It does not take more to realize the Self even for a moment. But to realize it definitely, it will obviously require much more. Life is in charge of it anyway, it's the only meaning to so many so-called ordinary or spiritual experiences, which never last.
Life is without doubt the ultimate and great spiritual master, nobody can miss its teaching. And if we also follow the ones of those we consider as Gurus, true masters and spiritual guides, we can rejoice in its teaching instead of taking it as a painful lesson. Anyway, when we realize that life is constantly spiritual, we can be sure that we will not get bored or depressed. It's always some kind of challenge that must be addressed with a peaceful warrior spirit. And for those who dream of a rose garden, it might be a surprise, to say the least, but it will surely awaken them a lot more than the demagogic speech of so-called Neo spiritual teachers.
The soul has no reason to be unless it is eternal. Without it and its eternity, it would be impossible to grasp the immutability of space and the passage of time, which also has neither beginning nor end, and consequently perceive all that manifests in such a 3D dimension, starting with ourselves, of course. In short, there would be absolutely nothing to know and nobody to be aware of it.
The only reason that makes such concepts very difficult to understand is that it's impossible to figure out mentally what infinity and eternity really are, and even more their true purpose.
What's the point of such an infinite creation and universe ? Nobody really knows it, but it's impossible not to enjoy it, so to speak. Sincerely, what more than pleasure would there be for beings who cannot in any case prevent themselves from being even spiritually hedonistic ? Let us cut to the chase, what is a spiritual quest if not the ultimate pleasure ?
The problem of the human condition is not its nature, it's the same as the one of the Gods. It seems to be a lot more what can be done with it wisely and intelligently. Sincerely speaking, what could be wrong with the pleasure of living and enjoying ourselves sanely since here we are ?

On your own and alone anyway
A teacher can teach a spiritual path, a technique of meditation, for instance, but it's the practice itself that is going to teach what we really have to discover, learn and realize. The teacher can only explain, describe and speak about as much as he wants, but he cannot transmit his own experience, nor can he walks the path for those he teaches.
The true teaching comes from the practice. It is passed on along with the practice, not too much or not enough, just as it should be. Is it an endless process of perfection ? Only a fully liberated soul could say that the teaching stops at some point.
