Your Commitment to Scribendi
Your Commitment to Scribendi
As a contractor with Scribendi, you have agreed to perform work for Scribendi in a professional manner, in accordance with applicable laws, and in accordance with Scribendi's standards manuals, quality standards, assignment instructions, user manuals, and within the guidelines set forth in the terms of use policy and the privacy policy outlined by Scribendi.
If, for some reason, we receive a complaint or have a concern about the work that you have performed, we reserve the right to ask you to correct the work at no additional cost, failing which, you will unfortunately not receive any fee for the performance of the work in question.
To stay active on the Scribendi roster, you simply need to complete a single order within the last 90 days. If three consecutive months of inactivity occur, however, your profile will be switched to inactive, and you would have to go through the reactivation process to pick up work again.
When initially hired as a contractor, you will be in a probationary period; your editorial status level will be Protostar. During this period, all standard services will be available to you, but corporate and manuscript services (and free samples) will not be available. This period as a Protostar will last until you've received five QA checks, which will typically be scheduled within the first two to three months of work as a contractor. This begins with your first order; a Manual QA check will be scheduled for this order with the aim of providing some initial feedback on your editing and to help familiarize you with Scribendi's policies and procedures. This initial probationary period should provide ample time for you to complete orders, receive feedback in relation to meeting Scribendi's quality standards, and apply such feedback to subsequent orders. Scribendi also makes free grammar, editing, and proofreading training available to all freelance editors on an optional basis, as we believe that continued professional learning is always a valuable option for editors.
After this Protostar period is complete, you will be considered a veteran editor and will enter into one of four other status levels (based on a number of quality and productivity factors): Neutron Star, White Dwarf Star, Red Dwarf Star, Blue Giant Star, or Supernova. Based on your status level, different services will be available to you. If you are a Neutron Star, your QA average (based on the best four of your last five QAs) is below 75. You can remain as a Neutron Star for no more than 45 days within a year and drop into Neutron Star no more than twice within a year; however, repeated QA failures can lead to contract termination before these limits have been reached. Please remember, though, that there are people available to help you, and editors will be given opportunities to complete orders and receive new QAs, which provides them a chance to showcase improved work and quickly increase their status level.
