Client Relations and Customer Service
We don't allow direct contact between clients and editors. There are a number of reasons for this:
We believe editors should be allowed to get on with the business of doing what they do best—editing. That's why we handle everything else.
Most of the material we take in really doesn't require a great deal of discussion anyway— a college paper submitted for proofreading simply needs to be proofread.
We believe manuscripts should be reviewed objectively. For example, if a client submits a novel for editing, the editor should be able to review the book as a potential reader would. A reader does not have the benefit of a one-on-one discussion with the author to get an idea of what the author meant to say when they are reading a manuscript; the editor needs to make sure the author is communicating what he or she should.
Finally, there's the matter of business efficiency. The Scribendi model is one we've honed over two decades, and it's one that gets the most work to the most editors, while providing fast, efficient service to a huge number of clients.
In order to provide this kind of service to our clients, Scribendi is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. We have a live customer service representative available from 7am–10pm EST. E-mails are returned within 12 hours, even if we get them in the middle of the night.
