Scribendi Forum Guidelines
Scribendi Forum Guidelines
The Scribendi Forums are a great place to ask questions, find answers, or just get to know your fellow editors a bit better. We love it when our forums are put to good use, which we find they often are. From discussing Scribendi's policies to sharing funny work experiences, our editors always seem to find a way to benefit from belonging to this community.
We want all of our editors to have a positive experience when posting or reading the posts of others.
The forums are part of our digital workplace, and as such, we want to make sure they provide a safe, secure, and enjoyable environment for everyone. With that in mind, here are some guidelines to remember when posting in the forums.
It's a well-known fact that editors are superheroes, and as such, it's essential that they all have secret identities. At Scribendi, your EM code is your alter ego. (The cape is optional.)
In all seriousness, your privacy is very important to us. We don't allow clients access to your private information, including your name, and we also would not share this information with your fellow editors without your permission.
This is why, when you post in the forums, what is shown on your posts is only your EM code. However, in the post itself, feel free to share your name if you so choose. This is solely your choice. The avatar you use is up to you—and, of course, it may hint at your superpowers! No one is going to begrudge you a picture of Superwoman or the Flash. Ever.
Even though we all work independently, think of yourselves at Scribendi as the Justice League of Freelance Editors. Or, if you're more of a Marvel fan, you can be the Avengers—the Avengers of the Misplaced Modifiers! Either way, we ask that you respect your fellow editors when posting on the forums.
This means avoiding topics that others may consider offensive. As these forums all discuss work-related matters, avoiding controversial topics should not be difficult. If a topic would be inappropriate to discuss by the water cooler in an office, it is also inappropriate to post on Scribendi's forums. On personal topics, please respond with kindness, respect, and professionalism, taking great care and consideration when responding to your fellow editors (even if you disagree with their point).
Anything that can be considered discriminatory, whether in terms of race, ethnicity, religion, nationality, disability, gender, age, or sexual orientation, will be removed from the forum. Other offensive or illegal behavior, including posting copyrighted material, posting spam, swearing, posting threats, or making reference to illegal activities, will also not be tolerated on the Scribendi forums.
The duty editors—that is, the in-house editors at Scribendi's headquarters who help to manage the board—and mmembers of the management team will try their best to answer any forum questions related to Scribendi's policies. They'll even do their best to answer grammar-related questions to the best of their ability.
If you have a question that's urgent, please send it directly to the editor on duty at senioreditor@scribendi.com or to Customer Service (customerservice@scribendi.com) as appropriate based on the issue. Concerns about specific QAs or other private work matters should be directed to the Quality Department (quality@scribendi.com) or the Senior Manager (manager@scribendi.com) as appropriate. Please don't share private work details on the forums. If it's more of a general question, feel free to post it on one of the forums.
Not only will a Duty Editor or management be able to chime in, but your fellow freelance editors will also be able to contribute to the conversation. If a personal/professional topic is raised that would be better handled in private, the Duty Editor or management will leave a comment indicating that the editor will be contacted via email.
If there are repeated instances of a freelance editor violating these guidelines on the forums, their access to the forums may be removed. In particularly serious cases, a freelancer editor could lose their place on the Scribendi roster.
