This means we provide a variety of language-related services—editing, proofreading, and some writing—on a time-sensitive basis to a global clientele. Our markets include retail customers (individuals with various language service needs), small businesses, corporations, governments, and non-government agencies (NGOs). We do business around the clock and around the world. 

We are not a job portal or employment site. We are not, in other words, another version of elance.com or odesk.com. What does this mean? A few things:

• There’s no direct contact between you and the end client.  

• You work with Scribendi as an independent contractor with the aim of meeting Scribendi's quality standards, per your contract.  

• There’s no bidding, negotiating, etc. on assignments; rates are fixed.  

• The scope of assignments is generally fixed. 

The following is an example of a typical Scribendi service cycle: 

A client, in this case a budding short story author, responds to an ad about Scribendi and visits the web site. She reviews the list of service offerings for authors and decides to order “Manuscript Proofreading, 48 hours.” She fills out the order form, uploads her short story file, and makes her payment. She then wanders away from her computer, happy and secure in the knowledge that her work is now in the hands of professionals. 

Meanwhile, the order goes to Scribendi’s internal order assignment system, EditorWorks™. All Scribendi contractors who have “Manuscript Proofreading, 48 hours” in their service profile will see this order appear in the “Orders Available” section of their control panel. A keen editor— you, perhaps—will accept the order, proofread it within the stated deadline and to the standards outlined by Scribendi, and upload the revised file to the Scribendi web site. The client gets a notice to pick up the revised file and the editor moves on to the next assignment. The freelance editor will be paid by Scribendi for the order at the beginning of the next month.

• Scribendi continues to grow and expand, and we continue to get more and more clients. While we cannot guarantee a full-time income, we promise to work hard to keep you as busy as you want to be.  

• Our dynamic pricing is based on a variety of factors, including order volume, workflow, and editor engagement.  

• We pay promptly via Payoneer within the first ten days of the month.

This course will orient you with our processes and procedures. If it looks like there's a lot to learn, don't worry. Most of it is fairly straightforward and (we hope) intuitive, and you should be able to get up to speed fairly quickly.
