Quality Policy and Quality Objectives
Scribendi's commitment to quality isn't just for editors. Every position at Scribendi has specific goals it's expected to reach. Our goal for Scribendi editors is to have a rolling average QA score of 85% or greater, and our QA process is constantly being updated to help us reach this goal. The Duty Editors, Editorial Quality Manager, and Senior Manager are here to help freelance editors meet our quality standards and help Scribendi reach this goal. We provide access to great courses that have been shown to have a significant impact on editors.
Our Standards for Editing, Proofreading, and Critiquing (available in the Key Scribendi Guidelines section of our Guidebooks tab in EditorWorks™) provides our overall standards for proofreading and editing English language documents.
Note: While we adhere to specific client style instructions, we also have a fallback for grammar and usage issues, just in case individual clients forget to provide instructions or simply don't have a preference. Scribendi defaults to the The Chicago Manual of Style for all grammar and usage issues unless specifically instructed by the client to use another style guide. Please note that this does NOT apply to the formatting of citations and references but just to grammar and usage issues. If a client requests that their references be proofread but does not provide a specific style guide, simply revise the references for general correctness and consistency; do not apply The Chicago Manual of Style format for references and citations.
Additional Note: With regard to handling reference lists for regular Scribendi services, please remember that you do NOT have to research missing elements online and then add them to references. This is the author's responsibility. Please just provide a comment in the margin noting the missing information. (The only exception to this rule is the Merudio Reference Formatting service, where we will locate and add any missing information to the references for these professional academics.)
